I was hoping for this but with the perennial trend of BP fans getting the disappointing treatment from Marvel on a constant basis, I won't hold my breath. Even if they did, they probably focus on Shuri rather than the main hero that brought Wakanda to light. After all, that's what the "masses" want. Shuri to take over and leave T'Challa in limbo.

1. Killmonger will be back because his boy is directing the movie so didn't really accomplish much in the grand scheme. Just got tossed off a waterfall and turn into memes. And now people are championing a reformed killmonger to come back as the Black Panther.
2. Turn Zemo into the US authorities only for him to be released later on and causing more damage in the future. Great accomplishment.
3. Tchalla Has always been what kind of top scientists and leader in their advancements. At what point has Shuri been that?
4. The point wasnt the track record. The point is that hes atleast AROUND to defend his actions.
Like you said, it’s not always about money. There’s a fan bias in creative industries based around multimedia franchises. We’re getting Kate Bishop and Hawkeye DLC before Black Panther because there’s someone in that boardroom advocating on their behalf. Doctor Strange is getting pushed because the producers have a special place in their heart for the character. We have to accept as fans that T’Challa was a niche low B-high C list character before circa 2016. And to be frank a lot of that support was driven by black fans on the margins of the Marvel fanbase.
I bet there are virtually NO major creators over the age of 40 at Marvel that place him in their top 5. Then the movie does well and you still have people in positions of power that think it was a fluke or that they can afford to treat him like Ant-Man. There is no intrinsic love for the character and it shows in the dearth of material and promotion he got. And when he did get push it was in a half-assed way that didn’t actually lead to anything substantial (the Coates spin-offs, the lazy teasing going on in the Avengers game, cutting Redjack’s cartoon, etc.)
Marvel doesn’t care about T’Challa, they care about the money associated with the Black Panther mantle. Time will tell if they can replicate the profitability with someone else in the suit, across not just box office, but toys and other revenue streams. At this point all I care about is comics, the movie will come out when it does and I’ll have the same expectations for the sequel that I did for the original. And while I am watching to support the story of Wakanda I’m more interested in seeing how they handle T’Challa’s sidelining.

The fact that some people think that way is completely asinine to me. Sean Connery was the first to portray James Bond and has been replaced by other actors numerous times and yet, we still remember Connery as the OG and to some extent, the best James Bond.
So that idea that Boseman will be forgotten just doesn't make sense.
And Tony doesn’t exactly have cosmic-level rogues yet he was the central character of the MCU saga featuring Thanos. The idea that the primary character in the MCU needs to directly be related to the main antagonist simply isn’t true. It’s what the creators want and bending that to fit into a profitable storyline. At the very least Carol showed enough money-making potential out the gate with the second highest box office for an MCU solo film. Plus we know Marvel is gonna do their damndest to support a white female lead in opposition to Wonder Woman. They’re not exactly under any stress to push out something like BP with T’Challa when the closest competition is Cyborg lol.
Killmonger has never really been a social commentary character. He had some interesting views about the nature of the world, but the black radical terrorist take on his character is an instance of Coogler using his creative license to make the villain reflect the themes of the film. He could do that with Kang if he wanted and if Disney made that offer.
