What’s wrong with bald?
nothing, if you bald shine that bitch up and flaunt that follicle-free dome; I'm just tired of seeing it on black characters in fiction. if I'm being honest I'm tired of the low-cuts too, they both make black characters look super samey out of costume, but at least the low cut I see more often as the default in real life.

Like lemonpeace said, wanting something other than bald as a hairstyle for Black male fictional characters doesn't mean we find bald for Black men bad, especially in real life.
But in fiction, it would just be nice to see Black male characters (regardless of fictional age) have cool and widespread hairstyles that are afforded to other characters of fiction. Fictional character take advantage of their position with everything; you can get away with stuff you can't do (period or feasibly) in real life. So I would just like fictional Black males to take advantage of that more often then they do.
It also doesn't help when you realize that it seems a lot of artists go on as if bald or crew-cut are the only Black male hairstyles that exists. (I read a thing that went over how so many artists are just plain ignorant on how to draw Black hairstyles, especially Black male ones.) Like lemonpeace alluded to, it has the tendency to make Black male characters appear too similar when they aren't wearing their costumes that help differentiate their appearances.
Most of the time it's default look.
While JD has mentioned artists-you also have to look at toy makers.
Take Static's hair-you would have to do one of the following-
1) make a new mold
2) buy a mold from some else (see the new Zack head from Power Rangers-he has dreads. Jack from SPD does too and you have of Devon of Beast Morphers. Same issue with Blue Wild Force ranger if he gets one)
Most don't want to do either one. Because they cost. They want to reuse stuff.
That is why you see movie Miles, Killmonger and Boseman's figures with the same heads.
Even We Are Robin's Duke and Wallace West had to get new heads made.
So that is part of the reason we see certain looks. As Annoying as it is.
That's fair and all I was thinking is "hey, Tatsu and Jeff are interacting in a book I'm already buying. This is going to be fun!"
I will admit I think bald is my least favorite look for Jeff. It's just the least interesting of his looks that I can recall, though now I'm wondering what my favorite visual for him is and it might just be Cress Williams on the CW series... Because Cress is a damn fine Black Lightning. Even in those goofy costumes they give him.
Comics wise, I don't think he's got his perfected, iconic look yet. Some good ones, but nothing where I'm happy to keep it forever (like Huntress Rebirth, which has never looked cooler).
I thought the bald look worked well in the DC Nation shorts, but I'm not dedicated to it.
