Yea it all comes down to execution and it simply didn't work out. I think more effort should've gone into building up the romance to get more fans on board but I enjoyed the marriage for what it was and am fully in support of them moving on. Storm can be both a mutant and a queen, same way Gambit is a mutant and thief-king and Betsy is a mutant and Captain Britain.
But her being queen failed and there's not much either of them can get out of each other. Storm isn't nearly as relevant as she once was and T'Challa has since completely surpassed her as Marvel's premier black character. Marvel should be investing in the black women in his franchise, whether they be love interests like Nakia or his sister Shuri.
Why Coates and writers on books like AoW and seemingly Marauders are pushing the relationship between Storm and the BP mythos is quite frankly strange and unnecessary at this point. Marvel needs to give their premier black male hero a stable love interest with no editorial constraints and they need to give one of their best black female characters a genuine push not related to her ex-husband.
