The movie was good and every character felt like they belonged. Chad gave a great performance but he died and it changed the whole focus going forward.

The plan to use Shuri instead of recasting was bad in foresight and hindsight. A lot of us in this thread said they should re-cast and we didn't even forsee the problems they are having right now.

It wasn't because T'Challa was a weak character that they didn't recast, in fact it was the opposite. Chad was so good in the role that Marvel Studios that they would honor him by not recasting which was a huge mistake.

Delay the movie, let time past and everyone grieve. Then find the replacement.

Instead, we get a delayed movie with a problematic lead and a lot of uncertainty. That's because Marvel Studious misread the fandom.

MCU Shuri is the same as comic Shuri on name only. She is not set up at all to take over. That was made Crystal clear in the movie when they were trying to figure out who would take the HSH to face Erik. Know who wasn't even apart of the conversation? Shuri. Nakia, Okoye, and M'Baku we're the options. Ramonda and Nakia agreed that a lesser of two evils on M'Baku was a better option then Shuri lol. She isn't set up to take the mantle, Letitia was the weakest cast member, and marvel did F up when they decided that T'Challa would not be Recast after a couple minute conversation based purely on emotion without any forethought or time to actually grieve.

Blue marvel is t the biggest black character in history and the most successful solo super hero of all time. There is nothing wrong with having T'Challa be shown as his comic accurate self and wanting that, and IDGAF what anyone says, if fans are able to get those versions from white heroes, I am going to demand the same for T'Challa

You literally just described several things the narrative of the movie will inevitably cover. Is Shuri ready? Probably not, so we'll most likely see her journey in the film, which is what makes the most sense. Fans can get those versions from white heroes because their actors haven't died. What's not clicking? It's getting weird, y'all are looking for any reason to dismiss this movie before you've even seen a second of footage, let alone a plot synopsis. It's getting weird and misogynistic.

Apparently a T'Challa appreciation thread should be happy that his character will be shelved in favor of Ms. Anti-Vax and we're misogynist or something for not celebrating that

Idek why y’all are entertaining unfans in this thread lol. It’s obvious what’s going on here and people shouldn’t be taking the bait from those eager to erase T’Challa and everything Boseman worked for. Some of these same posters would cheer if they got rid of T’Challa in the comics…

Let’s not forget that had Chadwick lived to film this movie, Letitia would have been putting him at risk since he was fighting cancer. But sure, we’re sexist because an actresses dumb decisions are causing problems with production.

And further more I’m getting sick of all this BS of “at least there’s X”. No I’m done with this crabs in a bucket mentality regarding Black characters. They want to give us Blue Marvel? Cool. Let’s see him and T’Challa work together. They want to elevate Shuri? Cool. Let’s have T’Challa right there supporting her. We don’t need to sacrifice one form of representation to prop up another. Tell me what’s not clicking there?

And in a world where Spartacus and Dumbledore got recast after their actors died, and where we got two live action Jokers after Heath Ledger there’s nothing you can say to convince me that letting another actor finish what Chadwick started would be disrespectful. Especially now that Marvel has a whole ass multiverse with variants. But sure, we’re the weirdos here.

Thinking that T'Challa shouldn't be killed off and put on a shelf then replaced by a less interesting character and problematic actress is now misogynistic?

Anyway, do we have any final predictions on who the villain for Ridley’s first arc is?

We really are gonna need a separate MCU Wakanda thread for all the unfans and other people watching the movie to post because I don’t imagine we’ll be talking much about comics as WF gets closer lol. Especially if T’Challa’s not gonna be in it.

The response on Twitter is telling.

With Nate Moore saying aloud what many feared, it’s becoming clearer how ‘Black Panther’ fans feel about this decision. It’s also clear that there are day 1 fans, since the movie fans, and agenda based fans (who tell you there’s precedent in the comics that they’ve obviously not read themselves), lining up on their sides.

One thing is for certain already. Disney/Marvel want be able to honestly say this was a decision for the fandom.

Might as well start one now bro. Lmao. But as for comics I’m placing my bets on Achebe. The premise of this story would make it a perfect time for home to come back. It seems right up his alley.

I'm loving the response on social media. Thank you Van Lathan for starting a dialogue! Even though I think he could have taken it further with a follow up question.
We have a good 6 months to continue being loud about this. And then hopefully those "last minute reshoots" pop up
