That's the thing, they don't have to awknowledge that he is different. They didn't do that with Rhodes, just continue on. Have them be happy he is back. The assumed dead part (as well as this investigation) is because we already know the crew wants to tribute Chad and that's how they will likely do it, with some type of memorial. Which I think would be in bad taste, but that's just me. Have his name inscribed in the throne room on a fashion similar to Cooglers message to his Mom. Simple, elegant and respectful while keeping the movie going
If it's an in-universe change like with Rhodey yeah, they don't have to acknowledge. But if they don't plan on re-casting the main universe T'Challa, and bring in a multiverse version, then they might feel the need to differentiate the 2 T'Challas and acknowledge that this version is somehow different.
To be honest I don't see it being cathartic for fans. Maybe to the cast and crew, but to fans, especially young kids. It's going to more likely be a blow to them. Even their heroes who look like them, who are supposed to be larger than life, and an inspiration, will be killed off too. As I said, there is a way to honor Chad and give him the send off he deserves without making people go through it again years after the fact. It was already bad enough to see it in the what if. Now they want to do it again in the sequel... if they go that route

Which is what they should do. Even a variant cones with its own set of issues that would need to be addressed, to the point where it will likely regress the character to some extent and have to go over old story beats again. Making Chad's death a plot point in the movie is a mistake and again is this short sighted stuff with long terms implications. If this is what happens of course

Yes, yes, the calls for the re-cast are getting louder and louder and more and more mainstream!
Killing off T'Challa because the actor playing him is dead isn't the way to go.
At least, in the last Ghostbusters movie, we still got to see a "version" of a late actor. Heck, even "Sex and the City" didn't write Willie Garson's death into the series (as the Producers said, it's not "charming").
I'm not sure why the MCU producers are so determined to off T'Challa. It's a little ghoulish, to be honest.
