Yes and no.
While those Coates spinoffs failed as single issue comic books. They did NOT fail as trades and in the case of BP WOW-that was before the movie came or even the first trailer.
Then you have the Shuri novels that have done very well.
Okoye's is a top 50 seller on Amazon and guess who she is beating-everyone at Marvel not named Miles Morales and everyone not named Harley at DC.
What is worst Ridley's first trade is not even in the top 1000. Coates as bad as he was-his did NOT rank that low in preorders.
We all know Black Panther hit 200 issues with HIM not Wakanda on the cover.
The issue we are facing is outside the comic book store-is saying a different story.
Divorce Wakanda from Panther and send him on his way.
Which book would last longer
World of Wakanda with Shuri, Dora, Okoye and Storm.
Black Panther in exile at the Avenger's HQ with his new sidekick Prodigy after he finally wised up and left Karona.
Or
Black Panther and the return of Fantastic Force?
They only hope for this arc / series is for Ridley to end this with the answer for WHY Wakanda has been a monarch for 10k+ years like Coates asked and failed to answer. And that is the black panther is chosen by their goddess because they are the best and most worthy person of their generation to lead Wakanda. Period end of story. They are successful because their leader sees what the people need and what they want and makes it happen while protecting them. Ultimately yes one person have a lot of power but it comes with alot of personal sacrifice and putting the nations needs over their own.
Or maybe more people are getting sick of them purposefully removing all of T'Challas intelligence and dumbing him down and just making him Black Captain America. They already took a direct, question about it feat from T'Challa and Gabe it to Shuri in the first movie (figuring out how to make VB Inert) when it was 1000% not needed and could of been left to T'Challa to uplift both of their Super genius... But thats not how it works it's gotta be one or the other and right now, Black girl magic NEEDS to take precedence over good showings of strong Black males on their eyes.
T'challa is a king and Coates made a "king is bad" story and all that comes with it. A majority of the thread being against that isn't shocking.
