Real Shuri could. Real Shuri would have walked in and told them to F off. Now, the others in the room may have rolled her eyes, but real Shuri would have went in there with bass in her voice, scoffed, and left.

That is what is shitty? funny? about hte whole thing.

Actual shuri fans, when she was created and developed until the movie... sholdn't even want or like the current shuri. She isn't the same character at all.

she just wasn't a kid science nerd.

She was rash, quick to fight, living in her brothers shadow. She was aggressive. She wasn't calculating, she wasn't 10steps ahead, she wasn't a polymath genius... she wasn't any of what she is now.

I mean, characters do evolve in comics a lot of the times. Hell, T'challa has evolved a ton (mcgregor and priest t'challa's aren't the same)

But this "change" in shuri happened overnight... after already changing her into a encyclopedia mage lol. She went from being a rash, borderline angry Queen to a dry, super mature, historian like Mage, to a teenager super nerd QUICK.

They should just give Shuri a book of her own. If they’re really that determined to make her a star. And I say that as a completely objective fan. Give her something separate from TChalla.

Because it sounds like they have no confidence that she'll sell on her own.

Last time Marvel gave Shuri a book in the main MU it sold terribly and got mediocre reviews, like everything else she’s ever headlined that wasn’t a Scholastic book. And the writer was so creatively bankrupt she just had Shuri wear the Black Panther habit and plastered it all over the covers like anyone would give a damn. Marvel has a lane for Shuri already, the cutesy Disney princess with a knack for inventing and low stakes stories. Whenever they try to push her as more they inevitably take something from T’Challa because BP only gets shit writers with no ability to balance multiple competent characters. Ridley’s not even the worst and he’s guilty of this too. Or the writers have some weird disdain for T’Challa’s traditional characteristics, if not the character himself (like Vita)

At this point just throw her in the Champions, Marvel’s clearly deaged Shuri the way they constantly have her hanging with Ms. Marvel. And the MCU is gonna permanently tie her to that generation anyway with Ironheart being the main character of the sequel or whatever. Pull the trigger and have Shuri move to the states as a full time Champion so she can stop being a parasite in the main BP title. But Marvel won’t do that because that means Shuri would be stealing shine from characters outside T’Challa lol.

Would’ve been cool to see Hudlin’s Shuri (starting from the end ‘Who is the Black Panther’) grow into her own, and lead a faction of Wakandans on a space expedition. Maybe even have her establish a colony by the end of her run. 2 separate titles/books with connected lore and an occasional crossover.

Real Shuri was Badass in her own right. She was all the stuff you listed above, however, though not a polymath, she was still highly intelligent nas shown in WitBP and she was staunchly FOR Wakanda. She blew up Atlantis and had T'Challa play decoy while they wrecked isht.

She cared for her people and would do anything for them. To the point she felt so guilty for failing to defend Wakanda that she went down with her people fighting.

But Marvel doesn't like that type of character atleast not for a female character. If it were up to them they probably rather T'Challa do something like that.

But with mage Shuri at least it followed a somewhat logical evolution. Not what we have now. Going from mid 20 something year old Shuri to teen joke cracking wiz kid just doesn't make sense. And what's worse, it's not even successful on the comics, and I doubt its going to be super successful in the MCU either because her character type is a dime a dozen in the MCU

She should of went to IGEW not under Coates but under a superior writer and she could become an empress, while T'Challa is King of Wakanda prime. Then she can have all the stakes she wants and go wild with that, while T'Challa deals with the great 616

Very good idea. If she’s not a great stand alone character. Give her a team of her own, or have her join a team separate from TChalla. And the above posts confirmed what I suspected; that she doesn’t sell well on her own.

I've said this many times. Shuri needs to join a team so that she she can grow and develop outside of Wakanda. She would have been a great fir for Future Foundation.

After WitBP Hudlin should've had her go on her own walkabout where she teams up with different heroes

In Klaws of the Panther Shuri teams up with multiple heroes. I think most of the post were referring to that run. Which did not sell so well.

Lets not forget when Lupita was first cast I think EVERYONE thought she was going to be Shuri. Older than normal sure, but most thought she would be Shuri.

High key they could have scrapped the love angle and just made her Shuri. That instantly improves her and T'Challa's character.

THe problem is she is a legacy character of a character that doesn't historically sell well.

Which is why Cannibalizing tchalla to prop up others won't work because you are Cannibalizing 22K sales lol. You absolutely CANNOT piss off the core buying group of T'challa and still have people left over to support anyone else.

Shuri on her own doesn't sell well at all, especially when Marvel is trying to push her as BP. She sells the best in scholastic form as, you guessed it, SHURI, not BP. But for some reason people think that if she is pushed as BP in the MCU that's going to transfer to success in the comics and it's just not going to work that way. She can't bulldoze her way through 50+ years of publishing history and take the top spot.
