Seeing a possible future is a very different idea than living the past, and there are many other precogs with opposite views. Plus, Xavier and Magneto had no reason to trust her, ever. She is also not a scientist like Moira, which would limit what could be done with her.

The "one and done" comment made me think of Astra for some reason. Not the Imperial Guard member. The one that "raised" Joseph and was a secret retcon BOEM member.

Picking someone like Moira who was prominent in the past, older, sketchy, and permanently off the table was a good choice.
Exactly. It's pretty clear Moira was really the only choice that fits in that role and doesn't lead to questions like "Who?" and "Where was this character throughout X-men history if they know so much?".

Not necessarily. Just like the tweaked Moira they can tweak other characters.

    Layla Miller could have worked.

Instead we have countless instances of "If this character knew so much the whole time then why did they _____?"

Having a character that was off screen most of the time would have actually worked better. It would have meant they things they were doing weren't contradicting the things we were seeing them do.

Astra, in fact her knowledge of cloning and history with Magneto would be analogous to Moira's history with Xavier. With Astra you just have her recruit Magneto first and then they both go to Xavier. It would also be fun to explain how her own power was incorporated into Krakoa to make jump gates and her cloning knowledge gave impetus to the resurrection protocols. I think Astra would be a good fit(on the downside the conspiracy theorists claiming she killed the real Xavier and Magneto..to start with ,and everyone is just a clone would never cease )

Any mutant with time traveling powers could go back to the past, meet Xavier, and say 'look at all this crap that happens in the future. We can only fix it by starting to make changes now.' Even the 10 timelines aspect works just fine with a time traveler.

As far as I'm concerned, there's really only one clear choice here:

Even if they changed the character, they’d still need to explain why someone with her endgoal would help make mutants stronger than ever.

Except it turns out that wasn't her goal, it was to take away mutants powers.

We still can't say what moira resolve is or that she is 100% evil though. she was placed on the spot with a lot of truths but moira is at a point where she can go either way. I know people are claiming hickman ruined her but as far as the story the only thing that makes her evil is her truth not her actions but she hasn't acted on that truth to our knowledge yet.
Don't let anyone else hold the candle that lights the way to your future because only you can sustain the flame.
