This guy has been making up stuff for years.
This is more of an internal Marvel politics/policy query but Depending on how short Ewing’s run was cut and how apparent the writing had been on the wall internally; I wonder will whoever runs the 616 solo book after blood hunt be lumbered with the ‘magical girl sidekick’ plot editorial was going to impose in the effort to make one of the other New Champion variants the next spider-Gwen, or will she join the other non Maystorm/Spiderboy variants on being apparent Hydra creations in Spider-Woman’s solo?
Calling bullshit. There’s no way to have Junior age naturally without making the other characters old as hell. Best I can see happening is some weird time travel stuff in Secret Wars where he can be an adult without aging the other heroes in the process. No younger than mid to late 20’s so he won’t be “little brothered” by the other avengers. I still think a variant is the cleanest way to recast if they don’t want to recast the actual T’Challa.
T'Challa
A.K.A. The Black Panther
King of Wakanda
King of the Dead and The Champion of Bast
Two-Time Time Magazine "Person Of The Year"
Six-Time People Magazine "Sexiest Man Alive"
What’s the point? She won’t matter after the series just like the Catwoman rip off won’t matter after Ewing’s run. Just like the Midnight Angels haven’t mattered since Coates. The BP IP is past the point of needing new major supporting characters. It would be ridiculous to introduce a new protege now when T’Challa still needs to be rehabilitated and you got guys like Vibraxas sitting in limbo. Introducing new side characters is a red flag for a BP title nowadays, it’s almost a guarantee the book will be slow and unfocused.
Yeah, why should readers care about and invest in new characters when they'll just get ignored when the next writer comes along after 10-12 issues who will only create more new characters. And like you said it's a waste of time investing in these characters when T'Challa is being relegated to supporting character in his own book.
Who wants to continually read about the life of a shop keeper while T'Challa goes on walkabout so that he can learn about the average Wakandan. That's a recipe for a title not making it past 12 issues.
It really shouldn't help that the book is no longer stable enough to focus on developing new characters.
So the focus on worldbuilding and new characters comes across as refusing to read the room on part of the writers and editors.
As been said before these books are no Moon Knight Jed McKay who can casually introduce new supporting cast members while still keeping the focus clearly on the hero.
In fairness, assuming the other New Champions don’t turn out to be Hydra creations, one would guess the sidekick girl would immediately to shipped off to be fresh meat for the event grinder what ever utterly doomed Champions book they’ll try their hands on now that the previous teen roster is unusable. Superhero sidekicks these days pretty much only meet the relevant senior hero all of once before they go off on their own. Leopard/Cheetah girl (judging by the armband) would be no different.
