doesn't T'Challa still technically have the King of the Dead powers? Not sure what is added for temporarily making him a vampire.

I would have pitched a team up mini series with Blade, with a race against the clock to prevent a fluke infection from taking hold of T'Challa during all the madness of the vampire hordes. If they want to go into the mythology of african monsters, that's fine.

I just hope that there is an obvious off-ramp for T'Challa's descent into vampirism that does not involve alternate world duplicates or clones (Krakoa?)

The fact that they can't help but keep saying things like tying to his legacy as king and his connection to Bast, both of Which have been used to utterly isht on him, so more of that doesn't sound appealing.

Eaton is the first and so far only black woman to every write a Batman story. She has also done some Milestone work. Along with Bitch Planet and has done Black Panther before for the Infinity books.

Was she the one who did the book that showed T'Challa as BP around the time Tony announced himself as Ironman? The story were that one villain blows herself up with a grenade?

Cheryl Lynn Eaton also wrote Marvel's Voices Infinity Comic (2022) #26 with T'Challa and Okoye from lasts year, IIRC. Because of that format, I'm not sure how well it's going to translate to her writing here. I'm willing to give it a chance.

As far as Ultimate Black Panther #1, it was very much a "first issue" for me (which is to say it didn't wow me, but it also didn't turn me off). I'll be interested to see how the opening arc progresses.
