I agree, Coates execution of the IGEW was just terrible. The concept is good. Maybe not start out right away with an empire but why not have Wakanda space explorers.

Man, F*** the orishas, they were one of the dumbest additions to the mythos ever. They're whole creation was two fold. Primarily to give the excuse and bullisht that if people simply prayed hard enough, someone could ascend to godhood so that he could make Storm a god. And second was to take away what made Wakanda special. The orisha protected them and develop technology. They did everything thing to make Wakanda as great as it was. Not Wakandans doing it of their own ingenuity and ability. They can die right along with Zenzi Bast, Tosin, and every other let character added to the mythos

About the Orishas I hadn't considered that about them. I was looking at it from the perspective of deepening Wakandan religion and mythology.

Writers like Coates shout black excellence until they're blue in the face, but his run was a painful deconstruction that was bolstered by great art and movie hype. I guess maybe he wanted to make his mark, thinking he could do this great deconstructive character study, a seminal run that would be thought fondly of in the future, like Priest, Hudlin, and even McGregor. except he couldn't pull it off. Maybe writing a comic book was harder than he thought, he lost a lot of steam and he let his cynicism get the better of him.

Coates left his mark alright. I would not want to live in his version of Wakanda.

Definitely wanted to see what would have been done with Hobie. He's one of those characters that was actually get some kind of progression and being developed.

What I would have done with Hobie is what Frank Miller did with Daredevil.

Redjack among other things is a prolific(and much loved around here) comic-book and animation writer and was the writer for the Avengers animated series Black Panther's Quest(a must see!).

Some of the titles that he has written:
King In Black- Black Panther One-Shot

Future Slate: Green Lantern(John Stewart)
The Winterman Project(Indie)
Black Panther: Soul of a Machine
Amazing Spider-Man Beyond #88
Mosaic

This is just the comic stuff.

He's written novels for Star Trek as well.

Monica Lynne starting in 1969 until the aforementioned Priest run. They were even engaged at one point.
