    Default Mutant Legacy Heroes

Most superheroes have a legacy character:

Iron Man - War Machine, Rescue, Iron Heart
Thor - Thunderstrike, Beta-Ray Bill, Jane Foster Thor
Captain America - U.S. Agent, Patriot
    Spider-Man - Miles, Silk, Spider-Gwen
Hulk: Skaar, She-Hulk, Red Hulk Amadeus Cho
Ant-Man(Hank Pym) - Scott Lang, Eric O' Grady
    Hawkeye - Kate Bishop

But there are very few mutants that have legacy characters(I may have forgotten some so please list):

    Wolverine - Laura, Daken
    Magneto - Polaris
    Phoenix(Jean Grey) - Rachel

Should other mutants have legacy characters or should they remain unique?

Those kids who wanted so hard to be mutants, the Children of the Atom, they were legacy characters in a way.
They agreed to stop pretending being mutants, but they can still be Kid Gambit or Cyclops Lad or whatever.

Maxim Garbarini had some great takes about legacy characters:

Mutants should stay unique and have informal apprenticeships ie Cyclops and Surge's friendship during the Decimation era or Logan's friendships with Kitty, Jubilee, Oya and Quientin Quire.

Legacies are fine but should be used sparingly. Infact I rather the other heroes follow the X-men model more.

    NO!!!!!

Legacy characters and Marvel in general has been a bad idea. Giving them to a team based on the uniques of genetics giving them there powers is not only a bad idea it wouldn’t be a very smart one .

Solo characters who have nothing but a costume, a weapon/tech and a codename are easier to come up with legacies for.

Mutants are more defined by their individual powers and they all share the same origin. They also tend to hang around in packs and get swapped in and out because they are completely replaceable other than a couple.

I think some villains might have examples, like Pyro, Avelanche, Apocalypse's Horsemen and Lady Mastermind.

The fact most of the X-Men can't sustain their own solo series doesn't help.
If Dazzler, for instance, kept her solo from the 80s, I wouldn't be surprised if she had a legacy character by now.

Ultimate Storm kinda have a legacy character with Maystorm.

I personally can't stand when Legacy codenames are used while the original is still around. Captain America, Hawkeye, Spider-Man and Wolverine all drive me insane. I was hoping Laura would take up Talon in the new era, but it seems like she'll still be Wolverine.

Wolverine, Phoenix, and Psylocke seem like the main legacy mantles that have been passed down to other characters.

    Apocalypse from the villain side.

Also, the X-Men play with the idea of that codenames for Mutants where actually their Mutant/Heritage Name. That being the case makes the idea of legacy characters for Mutants/X-Men even more silly.

I wouldn't ever use Polaris, X-23, Daken, or Rachel in this allegory, because they're all the literal offspring of the mantle. I also wouldn't put Betsy and Kwannon in here, because Betsy didn't get the modern interpretation of the Psylocke "look" until she switched bodies with Kwannon. The association is too different.

What you're looking for are protoges. And here at Xavier's School for the Gifted, we teach everybody how to use their powers, not just the people we like the most.

The closest thing to legacy X-Character I can actually think of is when Amanda Sefton used the Magik codename, the Horsemen of Apocalypse, the Hellfire Club's Inner Circle titles, and the Captain Krakoa suit. I guess you could also consider the five from Children of the Atom, but they weren't given the identities they stole.

I agree with the most here though, leave legacy characters out of the X-Men.
Queen of Mutants, Mistress of Magnetism, Magnetrix and the MII, Pestilence of the Horsemen of Apocalypse, the Krakoan Oracle and creator of the Sanctus Sacrum Tournament Key, the Threshold Seed Shaper, Brood Queen of the Fall of the House of X, Lorna Sally Dane, Ph.D., of the House of M, Polaris of the X-Men

There were hints from Ann Nocenti that she was supposed to be the daughter of existing characters...possibly Longshot/Spiral or Longshot/Dazzler.

I wouldn't mind seeing more mutant legacies...but only if it were in some sort of 'next generation' AU book.
Have the current crop of students like Hellion, Anole, and Surge as the senior X-men training a new team of youngsters that took up the mantles of 'retired' older X-men

I don't like the concept of 'legacy' characters. It's lazy. Let DC do that. Or the Avengers. X-Men are each their own unique manifestations of the X-gene. Each one can forge their own path. Even within so many similar powersets(like psionics, or ferals, etc.) they each carve out their own niche.
Let the flames destroy all but that which is pure and true!
