If you watch enough episodes of Criminal Minds you kind of get a feel for depicting the unsub...

Shemar Moore: "The 'unsub' is a black male who probably went to an HBCU maybe Howard perhaps back east somewhere...

Matthew Gray Gubler: "He's a black intellectual who is most likely feeling himself bordering on narcissistic tendencies longing to self vindicate using anonymous names..."

Joe Mantegna: "His pathology is that he avoids direct confrontation using various identities to conceal his ultimate intent..."

True Black Panther fans how many clues do you need?

Not just in how it looks and sounds (the cinematography and score are probably the best the MCU has to offer), but in the kind of story it tells and especially with T'Challa's character. To think T'Challa is simply reacting to things and has no agency I think is completely false

This movie's central theme is about balance. The balance between tradition and innovation. Wakanda in many ways is that balance, from their architecture, their technology, aesthetics. Their country is essentially highly advanced, yet their culture has been untouched and is very traditional (such as how they choose their king through ritual combat). Many characters in this film symbolise tradition and innovation, with some being moderate and some being extreme. For instance, M'Baku is extreme traditionalism while Okoye is moderate traditionalism. Shuri is extreme innovation and Nakia is moderate innovation.
    Excellent post.

The idea that this movie was about balance between tradition and innovation, I wish more people would get this. I suspect you saw the video where Coogler broke down the casino scene? I keep going back to the idea that Killmonger is the extreme negative version of innovation just like M'Baku is the extreme negative version of tradition. T'Challa is learning who he wants to be and changes in this movie while every other character stays who they are, influencing him all the while.

Wrong the only weight he carries is that of peer comicbook writers. I fully believe there are people on here that have read and immersed themselves in this character in ways Coates has not. Case in point Chadwick channels the character to such a high degree its insane however head admitted that he didn't even read about him growing up.

Good point. However, I think the counter-argument was made by Mr. Majestik where he suggested that Priest's opinion on this matter not necessarily something that a fan of his run would take stock in because by the end of Priest's run, T'Challa an emotional wreck with a brain aneurysm and "milquetoast." Therefore it is not surprising that Priest maybe celebrating the continuation of a similar T'Challa by Coates.

This would be akin to arguing that George R.R. Martin's opinions about character development in Game of Thrones weighs the same as random fans, because random fans weren't happy with how slowly he's developed his story in A Song of Ice and Fire.

I think that someone who has contributed to the character to the extent Priest has is obviously going to have a more prominent voice than someone who is purely a consumer.

It doesn’t make it gospel, but it makes their opinion more important than yours.
I have been a BP fan for 35 years. Others on this and the Hef board even longer. Collectively I would say our opinion matters. Especially since both Priest and Coates have said they were not fans of the character before they started writing him.

Box office predictions suggest 60-67m for the 3rd weekend. Variety went as high as 75m, but I think they got tired of underestimating it and tried to go over. 75m is ridiculous (and I hope the film beats it).

Saw the movie for the third time. I think it might be my favorite MCU movie.

No other MCU movie had this many prominent and strong female characters and I love that about BP among many other things of course.

Opens in Japan tomorrow and I think it opened in Russia wide this week. China is 03/09.

Edit: wide release for Russia was 02/26. Had opened up exclusively in IMAX over the weekend.
