    Currently alternating between

Shake-Down: The Complete Cases of MacBride and Kennedy, Vol. 2 (1930-33) by Frederick Nebel

    and

The Continental Op by Dashiell Hammett

Both books are collections of stories originally published in Black Mask magazine in the 1920s-30s.

I own the earliest collection of those stories from the '20s. It was my maternal grandparents, FWIW. Excellent stories!

Now reading The Last Kings of Shanghai: The Rival Jewish Dynasties That Helped Create Modern China (2020) by Jonathan Kaufman.

Kindle-wise. I am also reading 7 Footsteps of Fear, a collection of 19th-century short stories and essays by abolitionist/feminist Lydia Maria Child.

Since the latter is on the brief side, I also will be taking on tomorrow the e-book Rim o' the World (1919) by B.M. Bower.

New books I'm reading: Understanding Wall Street (1978, 1987) by Jeffrey B. Little and Lucian Rhodes.

On the Kindle front, it's The Devil's Dictionary (1906) by Ambrose Bierce.

I wonder if any of that information has become dated, especially due to the internet and all the day traders that don't go through old-time firms to do transactions.

It's definitely dated in some ways, but !) the big stuff hasn't changed in all that time and 2) as I have been reading every old book in my personal library that I either partially read (as in this case) or never at all, I would still take it on even if the whole book was obsolete.

I really like Gemmell's works, especially Drenai novels. I've always been tempted by his Troy books though, so would be interested to hear how you get on.
