Garney is back and in gorgeous fashion in the Daredevil 10 preview!

Yeah the annual was weak. Main story was just formula, inconsequential annual stuff. B-Story by McKenzie was just... bad.
I liked the last couple issues, the previous ones, less so. I'm getting worn out by the One More Day-ish shenanigans going on at the background though.
EDIT: On that note, having Spider-Man act all self-righteous and offended at DD making him forget his identity was intentional, hypocritical humor, right? Cause otherwise it's the least thought out character interplay like, ever.

Actually, I disagree with your interpretation of Spider-Man's behavior. Spider-Man was hostile because he couldn't figure out what was wrong. He knew something was bothering him regarding Daredevil's identity, but he wasn't sure what it was. The second DD told him he wiped his memory of his identity, Spider-Man conceded the issue and completely backed down.
Gotta agree with Mike. I was actually quite surprised that DD just came out and told the truth and Spidey let it go. Guess it would make him hypocritical considering but it was a nice moment between old friends.
Le Suck it, Dolphin!
-God I am so tired.
SCOTT SUMMERS AND EMMA FROST DESERVED BETTER.
Guess that's a possible way to view it. But personally I can't reconcile it with Spidey coldly warning "these black costume phases can be bad for you" as he swings away.
The whole Matt alienating his allies seems to be the larger theme at play, so what I'm saying is, if you're doing that, might as well address the identity thing and move on.
The annual was a real let down. I don't dig Echo, and I don't like the backwards move with the Gladiator.
And the art, especially with the Echo story, was just dreadful. I like that Marvel is taking some risks with their art, but too many of them are unsuccessful, in my opinion (Kingpin series, Nighthawk, and that 90s-reject Thunderbolts).
The depiction of Klaw was ripped off from the recent run, only not as well drawn.

I think the swearing could be toned down a bit. It doesn't scream 'professional' when I see that, but otherwise it was good review.
I'm curious what my opinion would be if it came out today... This was already in the past when I had started reading DD, and was established part of his saga. Since then, it's become a tired trope that nearly every DD writer tries to go back to. Give Matt Murdock just a touch of happiness... then systematically DESTROY his life, kill his friends, ruin his job and put him in the gutter... It's really become everything I've hated over the years about DD writing.
Frank Miller though? I suspect Born Again would still hold up. I think I would still love it as much as I did before the Foggy Cancer, Guardian Devil, Fall from Grace, Bendis era clones. it just felt like the story done RIGHT.
YES... he was beat down and broken, but he got back up. The story wasn't about breaking the hero... it was about the hero enduring the flames and being stronger. So many other writers just want the shock of killing someone important and forget about the whole 'overcoming' thing that Matt is famous for.
One thing that I always loved about it... was that line early on about Daredevil and Kingpin were NOT archenemies at the time. Kingpin considered him a mild annoyance that interfered with some low-level operations. DD wasn't any more special then Spider-man, Moon Knight, Punisher or anyone else who fought crime.
Getting that name in the envelope completely changed their relationship. Kingpin finally had a chance to destroy an actual hero where he lived! He made it personal. The rest was history.
