“TA-NEHISI COATES’S BLACK PANTHER IS A SUPERHERO SUCCESS STORY”

Author’s first comic has sold more than 250,000 copies in a month in the US and sold out in the UK

“Ta-Nehisi Coates can add another feather to a cap that already sports a MacArthur “genius” grant and a National Book Award: a bestselling comic. His first venture into the genre, Black Panther, has sold more than 250,000 copies in a month, making it the bestselling comic in the US so far this year. The first issue in Coates’s Black Panther series, which follows the adventures of T’Challa, the head of the fictional African nation of Wakanda, was published in the US on 6 April by Marvel Comics. Comic Book Resources reported this week that it sold an estimated 253,258 copies in April, putting it well ahead of the second-placed title, Star Wars: Poe Dameron, which sold 175,322 copies. The strong performance, according to the Hollywood Reporter, amounts to “an outstanding debut for a character often considered in the second tier of Marvel superheroes”. The comic sees T’Challa, the first mainstream black superhero to grace the pages of a graphic novel when he first appeared in 1966, facing “dramatic upheaval” in Wakanda, as a “superhuman terrorist group” known as The People causes a violent uprising…” https://www.theguardian.com/books/2016/may/19/ta-nehisi-coatess-black-panther-is-superhero-success-story[/IMG]

"MARVEL’S NETFLIX SHOWS WILL BE BRIDGED TOGETHER WITH ONE KEY CHARACTER”

“Superhero work is a dangerous business, and if you’re not coming back with injuries after fighting crime, you’re either extremely good at your job or you’re not doing it right. Fortunately for Daredevil’s titular hero Matt Murdock, he was able to turn to nurse Claire Temple to get stitched up several times, and with each visit they grew closer. Although she didn’t star in as many episodes as some of the other main characters, she was nonetheless an important member of the cast, which is why many fans will be pleased to hear we’ll be seeing more of her next year.

Marvel revealed today that Rosario Dawson will be reprising her role as Claire in Daredevil‘s second season. However, the announcement also stated that her return is part of a “larger exclusive TV deal” that will let her appear in any of Marvel’s other Netflix programming. This is another example of how these Marvel shows will be crossing over with one another in the coming years.

Other examples includes the Defenders miniseries, which will see all of Marvel’s Netflix heroes teaming up together, and Luke Cage debuting on A.K.A. Jessica Jones. As for Dawson’s Claire, it sounds like she will serve as the connective thread between many these shows, similar to Nick Fury’s role during Marvel’s Phase One slate of movies…”

"JESSICA JONES IS GETTING A NEW MARVEL COMICS SERIES THANKS TO HER NETFLIX SHOW’S POPULARITY”

“It sounds like that “Alias” follow-up is pretty much a certainty at this point — and when it drops, expect the original creative team of writer Brian Michael Bendis, interior artist Michael Gaydos and cover artist David Mack back on the book.

During Marvel’s Next Big Thing panel at Emerald City Comicon, Bendis all-but-confirmed that a continuation of his Jessica Jones saga is in the pipeline. When asked about a potential “Alias” sequel series at some point, Bendis said, “This isn’t an official announcement, but I’ll tell you, in lieu of it — yes.”

Bendis revealed that he’s waiting for Michael Gaydos to finish a graphic novel, as he thinks that if Jessica Jones were to return to “do her thing,” it should be with the original team — including David Mack on covers.

“After ‘Civil War II’ you can look for a return. I genuinely think you’ll be surprised by what we do in the first issue. I pitched it actually to Melissa Rosenberg, who runs the TV show, at WonderCon and she said, ‘Really?’ But wait for the official announcement, because this is not it.”

The unofficial announcement comes after a new Jessica Jones-led series was teased at C2E2 last month, when a fan asked Tom Brevoort about the possibility of a new book with the character. Now we know for sure it’ll directly follow “Alias,” and not release as “The Pulse” or as a “Jessica Jones” TV tie-in.”

What could be interesting is a show where she has to deal the ramifications of living in the superhero world. She helps people who have been injured in superhero fights, treats people who get exposed to cosmic rays or whatever but don't get cool powers, solves mysteries involving guys in frog suits etc

Bryan Singer gets so much leeway because of usual suspects, but I wish more people would hold a fire to him for his creative choices. Especially as a minority (Gay), dude is terrible.

He hires a hell of a lot of openly LGBT actors. More than anyone (outside of Ryan Murphy). When it comes to LGBT rep Singer has done better than pretty much any franchise because of his consultant support of LGBT actors. Representation matters in characters AND behind the characters and camera. Maybe we should give a little more credit where credit is due. He's done the heavy lifting on one side of the divide (the MCU films have done no lifting EITHER side of the divide).

In Civil War II: Amazing Spider-Man #1, it is revealed that Ulysses is Hispanic. I'm not sure if that was mentioned before but it's great to see a minority who isn't just being killed off or wasted but instead given development and depth. To top it all off, he's one of the main catalysts of Civil War II.

Claire is going to die. She's going to be the Phill Coulson of the Defenders who unites the team with her death.

Marvel's introducing a new minority character, Mosaic who just happens to be Inhuman. The premise is sort of like Quantum Leap.
