Im so tired of this zero sum mentality that people have. Shuri being smart and good with tech doesn't mean they are going to make T'Challa an idiot. He's a not only a king, but a superhero now, so it makes perfect sense that he would have help on certain things. He cant be everywhere at once. I swear people be looking for stuff to be worried about.

I'm actually glad that Shuri might actually be not only in the movie, but potentially even useful. I was honestly afraid with so many villains in the movie she'd be nothing but window dressing (if she's even in the movie at all). With so many villains in one movie, I almost wouldn't blame them if they gave Shuri a fairly background role. But being responsible for Wakanda's tech actually sounds kind of important. It sounds like they're trying to make her actually matter, which is cool.

T'Challa, the theoretician. Shuri, the engineering wonk.

He discovers the principles, she makes it wearable.

Not sure why people would have problems with that.

'Black Panther' Poster Drops Ahead of First Teaser Trailer

    The king has arrived.

Marvel Studios has released the first poster for Black Panther, and announced the first teaser trailer for the film will premiere during Friday's NBA finals. The game begins at 6 p.m. PT on ABC.

Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa, the king of Wakanda and hero known as Black Panther.

The film, from director Ryan Coogler, takes place after the events of Captain America: Civil War, which introduced Boseman's T'Challa. The new king faces off against Michael B. Jordan's villain Killmonger. Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o (Nakia) and The Walking Dead's Danai Gurira (Okoye) are also among the sprawling cast, as well as Andy Serkis, who reprises his role from Avengers: Age of Ultron as bad guy Ulysses Klaue.

In April, Heat Vision saw an early look at the film during a visit to Marvel Studios, where co-president Louis D'Esposito showed off dailies from shooting. Among the scenes were T'Challa's coronation ceremony, as well as a casino battle featuring Serkis. (Read all the details here.)

Black Panther is in theaters Feb. 16, 2018.

Almost too bad at the time they didn't go that route with Shuri in the comics when she first debuted. At the time there was a lack of super smart female characters. She could have been the first. Since then Riri, Val, and Moon Girl have comfortably taken those roles.

Shuri's affinity for tech can be brought back gradually as time goes on. It would be a very interesting to blend her old fashion Griot perspective with technology.

As for Shuri's path in comics, I think it worked out in the end. I know some disagree, but I don't think she would've been as known as she is today (pre-MCU) if she didn't become a Black Panther. Her being queen resulted in her being almost required to be included in major events (Hickman's run in particular).

Shuri eventually became known enough that she'll be featured in the MCU. She's the only thing from the Hudlin run that survived all these years. Everything else Hudlin brought to the table got removed as time went on.

Heh. I sorta like this. She was "forced" into the comics until she's become a respected figure that people demand to include.

Shuri was a very early example of how viable the legacy path can be.

Prior to being a BP, only hardcore BP fans knew about her, and many BP fans didn't think much of her being that she didn't show up much after the first six issues Hudlin's run.

Her becoming a BP resulted in her getting more attention, getting more character development, getting involved in events (and sometimes in an important way) and ensured that she would be featured in BP runs, all while keeping T'Challa involved in the story via lots (or the majority of) panel time in BP books or BP-related events. Even with T'Challa back as the BP and king in the comics, Shuri is still perhaps the second most popular BP character.

Thanks to this, she was included in the MCU. And thanks to recent developments in the BP book, she doesn't need to be a BP in the MCU to become a viable character beyond being T'Challa's (tech savvy) sister.

Thus, I don't blame Marvel for going the legacy route. It worked before and its yielding results.

    The Black Panther teaser trailer!

    In a word: excellent!!

Also...was that Shuri standing next to Nakia towards the latter end of the trailer? If so....great outfit! Looks like they nailed her character pretty well so far.

Very hyped for the film, should be a great experience!
