Hard disagree. He should stay away from the Big Two entirely and just work on his creator-owned stuff. I suspect Bendis never really wanted to do big giant superhero books, he wanted to do crime books, but those didn't have the numbers so he'd move in on a big franchise and just hack away at it until with was as close to a crime book as possible. Which usually missed the point of the books entirely.

Yeah, Bendis from 2000 to 2015 was on fire at Marvel. After Secret Wars, though…

Hell yeah brother that 15 year run was pure bangers and he was the sole creative lead on the "spine" of the Marvel Universe.

Now? The Avengers are a household name. I don’t think Spidey and Wolverine elevate them any more. They just need a great creative team that is allowed to cook by editorial.
It is not firing on all cylinders when you just stack a book with every popular character the company owns. Its lazy writing. With every A lister crammed into a book any writer would have seen just as good of sales as Bendis. Hell Rob Liefeld probably could have.

Actually, only Spider-Man and Wolverine were "popular". Iron Man and Captain America were core team members but not that popular in the larger scheme of things, the MCU was not a thing yet. And the others, Sentry, Luke Cage, and Spider-Woman... they were complete nobodies even in comic books back then. Their modern relevance within comics started with New Avengers. In fact, Bendis completely redefined Luke Cage to the way we know him nowadays. The whole "hero of the people" thing is of his design, before that he was just a "I'll only help if I'm paid" jerk.

Yeah but then as the movies came out Bendis grabbed up every character with a movie or TV show. He was strip mining the MCU to pad his books with any character with even a little bit of buzz weather it made sense for them to be on the team or not.

I have to agree with this. Bendis run on Avengers started long before the MCU.

Bendis first run on New Avengers only had Wolverine and Spider-man added to the team as A-listers.

That's not to mention that his Avengers stuff was around or at the top of the sales charts for almost 10 years. Bendis was to Marvel what Geoff Johns was to DC for a while.

If anything, it was Bendis using the characters that elevated them and subsequently got them shows. He’s the reason why characters like Luke Cage, Echo, and most obviously Jessica Jones got shows in the first place.

Amen brother! Cap should have walked right there -- didn't need Civil War. Avengers are not a task force -- and they shouldn't be deciding who lives and dies.

Didn’t that initial New Avengers run have Aunt Petunia's favorite nephew?
